Start with the frame.
Choose a retailer, then a frame. Included mats are always compared side by side.
Finishes listed for this frame and size; stock varies by store. Click “View frame” to check the exact colour.

Optional. Measure the hole, not the outer edge of the mat. These values replace the preview’s opening measurements.
Measurements, sources & limitations
Product listings checked 19 October 2026. IKEA RÖDALM frame sizes use inch labels, while published mat openings are metric measurements converted to inches. Rounded catalogue labels are not manufacturing tolerances.
Michaels Studio Décor: the listed “with mat” number is the nominal picture size, not a measured cut-out. The actual mat opening can be smaller. All Michaels mat previews use that nominal size as an estimate; enter the measured opening above if you have the frame. Prices and stock may change.
12 × 16 in exception: IKEA lists an 8 × 10 in picture with mat, but an inconsistent opening width of 29 cm. The preview estimates a 19 × 24 cm opening. Measure your mat before ordering; enter it above.
IKEA 24 × 36 in: the included mat opening is 49 × 69 cm; IKEA specifies a 50 × 70 cm picture with the mat. The same full-size sheet can also sit behind that mat. Michaels 24 × 36 in Poster Frame: no mat included.
A smaller-sheet suggestion is a geometric fit, not a separate IKEA-approved pairing: it must fit inside the frame and cover the opening with at least about 1.5 mm overlap on each edge. Centre it on the backing and secure it appropriately. Check actual measurements before buying.
Only single-picture frames are included. The earlier 18 × 24 in RÖDALM collage frame has nine openings and is excluded from this single-artwork comparison.
Paper-edge overlap by the frame lip, cutting variation, printer safe areas and image resolution are not simulated. 100% is the geometric fit limit, not a production-safe margin. Leave breathing room for important details.
White represents blank print paper. Mats are shown cream to distinguish them; that is not a colour specification. Frame colours can be selected only when a matching frame/size product listing was found. The swatches are illustrative, not colour-accurate; stock may differ by location. Some Michaels poster frames are listed for in-store purchase only.
Size the artwork.
These dimensions are the image itself—not the paper or frame.
Final size. Editing either value keeps the selected ratio.
Paper to order.
The paper fits the frame. Your artwork size determines the margins and what the mat hides.
